Mixit Refugee Youth Arts approached us to provide the film material for their ten year anniversary festival TEN. The festival included a photography exhibition, an international food market, and a cabaret theatre performance. All of the events were run by the young people involved in the project.
We edited a 10 minute documentary on Mixit using archive video footage from across the organisations ten year life. This meant an extensive collation and editing process, combining footage from previous films on the project with footage shot by the Mixit young people themselves. The film screened to open the cabaret theatre performance, and also featured as the video component of the photography exhibition.
We collaborated with writer Rina Patel to create three interactive film moments in the cabaret performance. Three Mixit Alumni currently living overseas filmed themselves performing short scripts. We played the films live as part of the performance, the recordings interacting with the live performers on stage.
Ella Becroft has been taking photography for Mixit since it’s launch in 2006. Ella provided photographs for the Art Exhibition that ran alongside the other events.
